A client in the desirable area of Notting Hill required a total refurbishment of their townhouse at Pembridge Villas. One of the biggest tasks the client had was to replace the existing sliding door windows: they were very heavy, difficult to operate and outdated. A new glazing system was required, one that would let in as much light as possible.
The client’s brief specified clean lines that were architecturally pleasing, small profiles, minimalist hardware and high-end materials to harmonise with the interior of the house. The chosen window system had to encourage fluidity and continuity between a marble kitchen and the natural outside space.
Working alongside renowned interior designer Alessia Mainardi, known for her unique and bespoke interiors, Bluebell was contacted to specify a new sliding glazing system. Supplying ES Finestra’s award-winning Zero 1 Lift & Slide glazing system was a natural choice for the space that required as much natural light as possible.
Why Lift and Slide? Aside from its glass-to-edge glazing, the system was specified due to its slim lines and unassuming silhouette. Its aluminium frame means it is light and easy to operate – and its simplicity and minimal hardware gives it major impact as both a glazing system and piece of furniture, matching with the client’s residence. Anything that interrupts the passage of light is hidden in Zero 1: the aluminium profile sits between the glass panels and is hidden by a double strip of special white coating printed directly onto the glass. Aside from a thin brushed chrome handle, no frame or hardware is showing, meaning more light and fewer distractions.
With the glass boasting a competitive thermal performance,* noise reduction of up to 40dB, class 4 air tightness and E900 water resistance, the Zero 1 window system does more with less – one of the main reasons the client chose ES Finestra.
Alessia’s thorough interior design methodology provided the client with clean, contemporary detailing alongside carefully selected and bespoke furniture that provided a space of relief and serenity, consciously avoiding the clutters of London living. ES Finestra’s Zero 1 Lift and Slide is the finishing triumph of this project, literally lighting up a new personality for this traditional townhouse.
